History

Elliott Baxter has a history going back over 90 years. Below are listed some key dates:

1922     Alan George Elliott forms the company with partner Baxter, who bows out the same year.

1948     John Elliott, Alan's son, joins the company.


1957     Mr EBB is born.

1959     Recruitment drive builds team to support growth.

1965     Company leaves central London and moves office to church hall near Twickenham.

1967     Warehousing moves from Brixton to Mitcham.

1972     Company moves to brand new offices and warehouse at Isleworth.

1977     Founder's grandson, Jeremy, joins the company followed by his brother Tim three years

              later.

1981     Same day deliveries increase. Stock capacity hits 2,000 tonnes.

1982     Sixtieth anniversary. EBBservice is computerised to handle growing sales, running at some

              150 orders a day.

1984     Second sales office and warehouse opens at Coulsdon.

1985     Tim Elliott takes over as Managing Director; John Elliott becomes Chairman.

1986     Third sales office and warehouse opens at Charlton. Sales running at 12,000 tonnes of paper

              delivered and £12 million turnover.

1988     Fourth sales office and warehouse opens at Wokingham.

1991     HQ moves to new purpose-built premises at Feltham near Heathrow. John Elliott retires after

              44 years building the company.

1994     Fifth sales office and warehouse opens at Watford.

1996     Coulsdon facility relocates to new larger premises at Croydon.

1997     75th Anniversary.

1999     Company acquires Howard Davies Paper based in Southampton.

2000     Wokingham moves to new premises in Farnborough.
              Charlton moves just down the road to a purpose built       
              warehouse and sales office. EBB goes on THE WEB!

2002     80th anniversary as sales hit £65 million.

2004     EBB acquires York & Ford Southern as Littlehampton
​              becomes Branch seven.

2004     EBB buys rival merchant H V Beever.

2005     Founder's great grandson, Matthew, joins the company 25 years to the day his father joined.

2006     EBB takes over Moorgate Paper's West Country operations as Yeovil becomes Branch No 9.

2007     85th anniversary as sales hit £80million. Branch No 10 opens in Manchester, and the

             company goes live on its new £1million computer system.

2008     Branch No 11 opens in Sheffield.

2009     Birmingham branch moves to a purpose-built warehouse and sales office – doubling its

              capacity, whilst the Yeovil facility moves to Bristol.

2010     Branch opens in Newcastle.


2011     Bristol branch moves to a larger facility.

2012     90th anniversary as sales hit £96 million. EBB adds a new branch in Glasgow and also buys
              Denian Office. Tim Elliott becomes Chairman with his son Matthew stepping up to become
              Managing Director.

2014     EBB takes over Cell Limited, adding a cartonboard and packaging division to the Company.

2015     EBB moves to a larger Manchester warehouse, and moves out of our site in Charlton into
              a purpose built facility in Thurrock.


 2016     EBB head office moves to Farnborough.
